Current Fire and Building Codes key elements for Public Safety:
- minimal signal level of -95 dBm in 90% of the structure back-up power for 24 hours of operation
- applies to structures of 50,000 sg. ft. or those with below ground floors
- coverage test using a 20 grid or 40 grid process
- annual certification of equipment with grid coverage test and one hour battery test
- must be tested by an FCC licensed or factory certified technician
Emergency Responder Radio Coverage
Hixxa Communications Inc. specializes in Emergency Responder Radio Coverage and Radio Enhancement Systems (RES). These requirements are mandated by the International Fire Code (IFC) under section 510 as well as the NFPA under Annex O.
Most of the Fire Departments or Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) follow the guidelines of the IFC and NFPA.
However, many of the AHJ’s have modified or amended the requirements with variations in the building size, Radio Frequency (RF) levels, performance, testing, monitoring and battery back-up requirements.
The IFC refers to the requirement as Emergency Responder Radio Coverage System (ERRC) and the NFPA refers to these systems as Radio Enhancement Systems (RES).
RES and ERRC is better known in the industry as a Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) System, Public Safety Repeater, Distributed Antenna System (DAS) or a Radio Amplification System (Radio Amp).
Hixxa Communications uses iBwave and can design, consult and fully integrate your In-Building Public Safety Radio Amplification Systems.
We can also test your building during the construction phases to determine if a system is required.
This system can also include Wireless and Multi-Carrier Cellular if the AHJ allows a shared system. We use several different DAS solutions that can be utilized to meet the specific needs of the customer and AHJ requirements. Most of the Public Safety Systems require 700 and/or 800 Mhz but some areas require UHF (450-470 Mhz) and VHF (150-170 Mhz).
We are currently scheduling site visits fro RF Coverage Testing and we’d like to discuss how we can help you improve Public Safety communications for your department, or answer questions about the local Fire Authority in your county.
We offer solutions to build, operate and maintain your wireless access in remote areas. Our passion is dedicated to police, emergency and daily public safety communications.

Turn-Key NFP/IFC Compliant Systems from HIXXA.
Many jurisdictions now regulate that buildings meet stringent wireless coverage requirements in order to provide wireless connectivity for emergency responders and fire department personnel during emergencies. Hixxa Communications installs wireless radio enhancement systems that are compliant with the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA 72) and International Fire Code (IFC 510) which many counties and municipalities are adopting for first-responders. Distributed antenna systems (DAS) are the best solution to meet the required in-building coverage standards and new building codes being adopted throughout the country.
